Adriana Takeuchi

Co-Founder, Artist

Adriana has spent her life exploring the material world and the invisible one, the outer and the inner, the things that can be seen and those that can only be felt. She carries a sort of ancient wisdom and a more-than-human knowing, an intuitive understanding that cannot always be fully explained, but can sometimes be felt in her presence. Driven by a curiosity that crosses fields, ideas and ways of understanding the world, she learns by living, breaking things apart and rebuilding with what each experience has taught her. She follows what lights her up, goes deep, circles back and allows herself to change along the way.

This curiosity is at the heart of her artistic practice. Working primarily with textiles, Adriana is drawn to their tactile nature, their presence in everyday life and their ability to transform a two-dimensional surface into a three-dimensional landscape of textures, structures and possibilities. Through weaving, sewing, collage and other techniques, she explores how structures are built, how different elements come together and what allows them to hold. The patterns, colours and forms she encounters in nature resonate with the visible structures of her work, while the relationships between threads offer a subtle parallel to the invisible connections that shape our lives.

Her practice is an ongoing exploration of how to bring things together with harmony and delicacy while maintaining structure and strength. She embraces this challenge with grace, finding in the process of making a tangible way to reflect on life itself and to learn, through practice, how to hold things together.

At the heart of her work is a deep love for her family, for the process of discovery and for the possibility of living in a way that influences the world around us. Adriana's work invites us to look again at what we thought we knew, to find meaning in the connections between things and to remain open to the parts of ourselves and the world that we have yet to discover.
